Description:

The huge success of our original blue Oasis® "sound-hole" Guitar Humidifier brought numerous inquiries about how to provide humidification for other wooden instruments such as violins, violas, cellos, mandolins, jazz guitars, guitars with flat top cases, and some woodwind instruments like clarinets. After careful consideration and research, we developed our Oasis® Case Humidifier.

How does it work? A neodymium magnet* in the humidifier enables you securely attach it inside your case, while still being able to easily remove and re-attach it to either a steel belt-style clip or a stainless steel strip with adhesive backing (both are provided with the humidifier). The belt-style clip fits over the side of your case, providing a flat vertical surface to which the magnet can adhere. The adhesive-backed stainless steel strip allows for either vertical or horizontal attachment anywhere there is a flat surface inside the case.** This type of humidifier provides the flexibility to position the humidifier in a wide variety of locations within your instrument case.

A 10cc. syringe comes with the humidifier increasing your control while filling and refilling. Since the Oasis® Case Humidifier holds about 32cc’s of water, it will take 3+ syringes of water to fill the first time. After that, refills should only take 1+ syringe of water. Because tap and bottled water contain dissolved minerals that can clog the liner, distilled water is recommended to extend the useful life of your humidifier.

*Even at the comparatively low strength Oasis uses, neodymium magnets are extremely powerful. During the manufacturing process, they’ve seen an individual magnet, located 8-10" from a stack of magnets, fly across the table because it’s so powerfully attracted to the other magnets. At times, it does so with such force that the magnet breaks.

Therefore the best way to control the force of the magnet is to make contact with the metal clip or plate by sliding the humidifier on or off along the direction of the clip or plate. In more visual terms, this is similar to the difference between landing an airplane versus a helicopter. The humidifier should be attached or removed by sliding it into position from one end or the other (the same way an airplane would land or take off) and not with a direct drop in (the way a helicopter takes off or lands). This approach has two advantages. First, it dramatically reduces any risk of breaking a magnet. Secondly, it reduces stress on the seam of the humidifier (where the magnet is located) extending the useful life of the humidifier.

** In Oasis testing, they found that the stainless steel strip can be removed from the case without the adhesive backing leaving a sticky residue or damaging the case. They cannot guarantee that this will be the situation with every case, but it’s worked on the cases they’ve tested.
