IBANEZ WH10 V3 Wah Pedal

Ibanez nails it again with the V3 version of their classic WH10 wah, featuring their multiple feedback op-amp circuit like the original plus two major upgrades: a very sturdy black metal housing, and a new switchable bypass feature (true bypass or buffered).

The WH10 is perhaps best known for being the wah pedal of choice for Red Hot Chili Pepper's funkmaster John Frusciante:

"I have an Ibanez wah-wah pedal, because it has a wider range than the others. I use a Fuzzface and a Boss distortion pedal, and an MXR phase shifter, and that’s about it." [Guitar (UK), February 1991]

"Ibanez WH-10 is my standard wah since BloodSugarSexMagik. I don’t think there’s a better wah. When we were making Stadium Arcadium, there was so much wah I figured I’d use a variety of pedals and there wasn’t one that came close to the Ibanez. There are a couple of Crybabys that are cool, but for me, they weren’t as good, because I use a lot of feedback. I want something that when I put it in one position, one note is going to feed back, and when I put it in another position, another note is going to feed back. You just have more variation with the Ibanez because there’s a wider frequency range." [Vintage Guitar (USA), April 2009]

Like the original WH10, the WH10V3 features a multiple feedback op-amp circuit, a type rarely found in today's wah pedals. Unlike typical inductor-type wahs, where the amount of gain changes depending on the frequency range, the WH10's op-amp circuitry maintains the same gain in any frequency range.

The WH10 also works great as a fixed frequency boost pedal, by varying the position of the pedal while the range knob is turned up. This will boost a range of frequencies depending on where you have the foot pad set, great for those Jimmy Page/Jimi Hendrix/Michael Schenker "parked wah" tones. Tweakage is accomplished with a depth knob on the side of the pedal to control the level of the wah effect. The unique sonic character of the WH10V3 sets it apart from all other in its class.

While the WH10 has always been coveted for it's incredible sound and responsiveness, previous versions were plagued with a plastic housing that unfortunately developed a reputation for breaking when subjected to the rigors of the road. Their sound was so amazing though, that many players would buy backups for their WH10's (despite skyrocketing prices on the collector's market), rather than switch to more road-worthy wahs that just couldn't match the WH10's sound and feel. Ibanez has answered all that with the WH10V3, which is now housed in a heavy-duty die cast metal case, ready to take abuse like never before! In addition, the switch and cushion parts have been updated to ensure the ease of switching the effect on and off.

The new switchable true bypass option offers potential benefits for players who like to experiment with their wahs at different positions in their pedal board signal path, or in their amp's effects loop, etc.

The GTR-BASS switch on the side of the unit selects the frequency range of the wah wah effect. When in the BASS mode, the filter circuit reacts to frequencies one octave lower than when the unit is in the GTR mode.
