As founder and front man of Megadeth, Dave Mustaine is one of a select few players who defined the tones that epitomized American heavy metal. In the early part of his career, he favored the Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz Model humbuckers. But when he and Seymour Duncan set out to create a signature sound for the legendary guitarist, Dave migrated to the active sounds of the LiveWire Dave Mustaine Set.

Tonally, Dave stayed in the same range as his passive pickups. The resonant frequencies of the Mustaine Model pickups are matched with that of JB and Jazz Model humbuckers. But the active preamp allows higher gain and more output without sacrificing tonal response and dynamic feel.
